Bio
Braxton Gillam is a Jacksonville-based trial lawyer and Bar leader whose career has been defined by a sustained commitment to the legal profession. He brings a thoughtful and measured approach to leadership, grounded in experience and a deep respect for the role lawyers play in serving their clients, their communities, and the justice system.
Braxton was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He later earned his Juris Doctor, with honors, from Florida State University College of Law.
He has built his career as a trial lawyer, representing clients in complex business and construction disputes, as well as a wide range of civil matters. He is board certified by The Florida Bar in both Business Litigation and Civil Trial Law.
Braxton has remained deeply engaged in service to the profession at both the local and statewide level. He currently serves on The Florida Bar’s Board of Governors, representing the Fourth Judicial Circuit, and has held leadership roles on the Executive Committee and as chair of committees focused on legislation, investment, and program evaluation. He is the 2025-2026 Chair of the Florida Bar Trial Lawyers Section.
He is also a past president of the Jacksonville Bar Association and has held leadership roles across organizations dedicated to the profession and the administration of justice.
Braxton’s approach to leadership is consistent and grounded. He values listening, thoughtful decision making, and a steady commitment to our profession.
If elected, Braxton would serve as the 2027-2028 Florida Bar President.
